Greetings, All--
Wow, where'd those three months go? Since the publication of my last newsletter, Rev 2.0 of stevenolson.com has been a smash hit with visitors all the way from Nigeria, where it seems several former dictators need my help with their bank accounts. Instead of opting for an easy life in a Nigerian palace, I continue to work away on a variety of writing and development projects. If variety is the spice of life, it's been nothing but Tabasco in these parts.
Technical For Command & Conquer Generals, an A-list title from Electronic Arts, I wrote the user documentation and a 115-page PDF document for the included map editor. The challenges of rapidly documenting tools for games development continue to intrigue me, as they provide a closer look at how games are actually assembled. For more information on user and tools documentation projects, stevenolson.com.
Kidstuff At the end of the year, I completed Great Trials of the 20th Century: The Trial of John T. Scopes, my third book for kids. I am well underway on my fourth. Search for "Steven P. Olson" on Amazon. After years of writing for the games community, I find that writing for the young adult market is a snap.
Marketing A background in technical writing sure helps in writing about technical hobbies. I helped to put together marketing collateral for a new SCUBA company SubTidal Dive Instruction, which provides open-water certification and advanced training in SCUBA diving techniques. For more information on other marketing projects, stevenolson.com.
Webdev For Fineline Maps, purveyors of quality maps for print and digital media, I created a clean site to serve as point of contact and online résumé. While I have been working with web technologies for several years now, applying them to commercial enterprises is a new endeavor. If you have a web project burdened by a limited budget, feel free to contact me. In this new area, I am willing to trade effort for experience.
While I have several projects lined up for the next quarter, I am always interested in hearing about new opportunities, this side of Nigeria. In a sense, writing is writing, and as long as it presents a challenge in some form, I am game for more.
Have a fine Spring.
Cheers, -SteveO
