SteveO's Newsletter

June 2003, v1e3

Greetings, All--

In the past three months, the world has been beset by a regional war, an emerging and deadly disease, and a spate of low-quality reality TV shows. Here at stevenolson.com, in a typically slow Spring, we paid our taxes and managed to knock off a few more projects. The suggestion: keep us busy, and the world may be a happier place.

Kidstuff
For you devoted Kidstuff readers, the fourth book with which you were teased in the previous newsletter has been completed. The Oregon Trail is with the publisher, and Fineline Maps is putting together a bang-up map for it. Plans for a world tour were scrapped when I lost my atlas, and my mapmakers are using all of theirs. Before the year closes, I hope to crank out another title.

Marketing
I've been writing an article for a regular games client to be placed in mainstream publications. Although our first project isn't complete yet, I'll take credit for it right about now. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what it is. How's that for informative? For better information on other marketing projects, see my Marketing home page.

Programming
A friend at Adobe was looking to hire a summer intern and needed to cull email addresses from 500 text, Word, and HTML résumés. Some job market, huh? I wrote a program in Visual Basic for Applications that did the trick. If you're interested in this tool, it's available for free, as charity begins at the keyboard. Drop an email.

WebDev
My dad and I are finally getting around to doing something that we should've done years ago: digitally archiving family photographs. Eventually, they'll be turned into a CD-based web site for distribution and embarrassment to the family. We're still in the scanning and cataloguing stage of this wedev project, and I'll keep you posted on what we learn.

...and there was some of this and some of that. As always, variety keeps me hopping, so feel free to inquire with your projects at stevenolson.com.

Hey, Summer's here. Get out and enjoy it.

Cheers,
-SteveO
