SteveO's Newsletter

June 2005, v3e3

It's been a lively Spring here at stevenolson.com, filled with love, good cheer, and the details of planning our nuptials for this coming weekend, a glorious moment of a lifetime. Somehow, the development team managed to focus enough to squeeze in several meaningful projects. On to them:

Technical
At the end of May, the Electronic Arts' Central Technology Group hosted an important training event on one of their mainline development tools for worldwide support. With just a few weeks to get it done, I finished a complete update of the product documentation, wrote two technical marketing pieces, deployed them to a Training area I created, and jumpstarted the training PowerPoint. Apparently, the trainees were so enamored, they stayed twice as long as scheduled.

Kidstuff
Neil Gaiman did check out my book and did not return it postage-paid. In fact, his review was, "You did a great job -- well done." No word yet from Mr. Thoreau on his biography.

Marketing
A client in enterprise software needed to develop a gatefold brochure and two product datasheets to go to production in two weeks. These collateral pieces informed readers on the products and, to a lesser degree, instructed them on the issues in the pharmaceutical distribution channel that are addressed by the products. For the next newsletter, I will try to provide URLs.

Technical
For EA-CTG, I completed the documentation for a pair of tools that reside within an integration tool used in Electronic Arts' production pipeline. These two documentation projects required a quick turnaround and deployment to the internal Wiki web site. Done and done. Next!

It looks like the new Google Print feature has already been put to good use: you can use it to get a free view of some pages from my books. Check them out at http://print.google.com. Enter the following:

Thanks to the warlord of stevenolson.com's Technology Group, Steve Muench, for the hot tip.

Marketing
For a friend looking for a new job, I helped revise his resume and wrote a couple of cover letters. The first letter that he sent received an immediate reply and an interview. Now, to figure out how to do that in my own line of work....

It is hard to put into words my thoughts and feelings about our upcoming day. As the morning sun climbs the hillside across the street, while my wife-to-be dozes in the other room, I find myself right where I need to be: at the keyboard, writing, surrounded by and suffused with love. May your heart be as full as mine.

Cheers,
-SteveO
