SteveO's Newsletter

December 2007, v5e1

Hello, Friends--

Long time, no light email dispatch. Welcome to the stevenolson.com newsletter, where I provide updates about my recent activities and current availability, with a little bit about life in the family lane. Since July, I have been consulting again across a variety of projects:

Technical
Mozilla Corporation has released Version 2.0 of Firefox, their award-winning browser, from which IE 7 borrowed many of its latest features. As part of the release, the Support site needed to be updated, and I provided writing and editing services for their Wiki. Additionally, I developed some methods for proofing their content. For more information, check out the Firefox Support site.

Training
For my former employer, I updated customer-facing training materials to support the latest release of the platform and application. For many of the company's training offerings, I built the training materials and maintained them through several software releases.

Technical
For a client in enterprise software, I co-wrote a white paper on best practices and emerging opportunities in distribution channel agreements for the pharmaceutical industry. This piece is intended to position the company as a thought leader on the pharma channel, which is undergoing significant change due to evolving channel agreements, emerging regulations, and new technologies.

Tools
For my former employer's most recent software releases, I have managed and executed the process of assembling over 40 customer-facing documents into a dozen different packages for distribution to internal and external customers. Since I built the VBA and Windows script tools that generate documentation builds, I'm pretty good at using them on a consulting basis, too.

Technical
For a client, I contributed a couple of articles to Wikipedia. While Wikipedia attempts to take a hard stand against non-neutral content, the encyclopedia is riddled with egregious and subtle examples of copy provided by parties with a vested interest. For additional thoughts on the matter, see my blog.

Webdev
For this Christmas, I am issuing Version 3.0 of the Olson Family Archive. Since last release in 2004, two newborns have become little people, and my siblings and I have added three new kids, including my son Owen. Grandma and Grandpa now have seven grandkids, whom we managed to keep altogether on a couch for about three seconds this November. My son Owen is the dark-haired little guy on the far right, who's about to make a break from unhappy Addy. Crackers are coming, everyone!

The year is winding down, but January 2008 looks fairly open at this point. As always, feel free to keep me in mind for your writing projects. Have a terrific and sane holiday season.

Cheers,
-SteveO
