December 2003, v2e1

Season's Greetings, All--

Welcome to the holiday bash celebrating the best year yet here at stevenolson.com. While we don't have the budget to pile everyone into the company limo for an evening on the town, the Marketing Department may be getting our logo onto some nice kazoos. On with the back-slapping:

Technical
Since the last newsletter, I've cranked out four more user documentation projects. For the year, twenty manuals and countless trees have been knocked down with my name on them. For more flattened acreage, please see my Technical home page.

Marketing
For a client of Adobe Systems, I developed a Quick Start Guide for Adobe InDesign CS, a slick desktop publishing application. This six-page gatefold brochure was turned around in ten days, and I got to learn a new application that expands my skillset. Layout, anyone?

Games
I had a brief project on the development side of games to write some catalog copy for Sims 2 from Maxis. How do you make a endtable sound exciting and useful while entertaining the reader? Buy the game to find out; it's slated for release in early 2004.

Kidstuff
For Rosen Publishing, I completed a fifth manuscript, this one on the Gettysburg Address. What Lincoln said in three minutes took me six weeks to explain. But then: he was the President. A longer book is in the hopper for the Spring.

Webdev
What started as a simple photo catalog of the family tree has expanded into a full-blown web development project. I've made contact with distant cousins from all over the country, including a few who've written family histories hundreds of pages long. Fortunately, Christmas approaches, and that's our ship date.

As always, feel free to let me know about any needs for the new year. Have a safe and wonderful holiday season.

Cheers,
-SteveO
