Seasons Greetings and Happy Solstice--
With this issue, the stevenolson.com newsletter is marking its third anniversary, and to celebrate, the crack Marketing team has elected to write another newsletter. Lots of activity in and out of the office, so let's get to it:
Marketing The Mozilla Foundation has completed the second release of Firefox, their terrific Web browser. As part of the rollout, Mozilla moved the consumer-oriented content to a new web site, for which I wrote copy. The project revealed some unpleasant truths about Internet Explorer, which in its next release will be trying to catch up. Download Firefox 1.5 for yourself; it's only 5MB to download. And you'll notice the difference immediately. For more, check out Mozilla.com.
Technical For a client in enterprise software, I wrote a white paper detailing the broad reach and innovative capabilities of their OLAP-style analytics offering. In de-geeked English, their system allows for on-the-fly creation and publication of management reports about distribution channel activities, which would otherwise be unavailable or take weeks to assemble. If you're interested, the paper is available for download. Decoder ring sold separately.
Marketing Edge Dynamics completed a major release of its platform and applications in October, and I revised and wrote new datasheets, a brochure, and web site copy. For more information, check out edgedynamics.com.
Marketing For a pharmaceutical trade publication, I ghosted an article on how drug manufacturers can become truly demand-driven enterprises through software. Not yet available on the Web.
Technical For multiple releases of its platform and applications, Edge Dynamics needed revisions to its documentation and customer training materials. I participated in the development, revision, and publication of both doc sets, including setting a personal record in the single-doc shot-put: 522 pages.
Kidstuff By the way, did I mention that I wrote a biography of Neil Gaiman, perhaps the greatest writer in comics history? This quarter's installment of Neil Watch comes from Neil's site, where my book is mentioned. Thanks to longtime stevenolson.com supporter ScottyJ for the tip.
2005 is coming to a close, and what a year it's been. Was it less than twelve months ago that I was still a bachelor? Life has certainly changed directions, and more change is on the way in 2006. Have a fine holiday and a terrific start to the New Year.
Cheers, -SteveO
