 Kids' Stuff

Company:

Blue Planet Software

Project:

Kids Tetris

Platform/Format:

Windows

Description:

Kids Tetris brought the fun of the all-time computer classic to the world of children's entertainment. While hardly counting as educational in a traditional sense, Kids Tetris was designed to sharpen motor skills and pattern recognition for children ages 3-7. To teach, encourage, and commiserate with the kids as they struggle to get the knack of this great game, we developed these bright, bouncy characters called "The Minos." Each Mino was Master of Ceremonies in an individually designed staging area where the kids played an adaptation of Tetris. As players improved their skills, the game ramped speed and difficulty until they were ready to play the many adult Tetris games. The game did include parental controls.

The enclosed sample comes from the asset database that was developed for the project. From the beginning, the deadline was aggressive, which precluded the development of some elements. For instance: names for the characters.

In addition to tracking voice assets, this database included elements (not in the sample) to manage all other audio-visual assets on the project: sprites, backgrounds, music, sound effects, and 3D animation. Then, this tracking and tagging information was pumped into a format that was interpreted by the state machine inside the code.
